Spårvagn Malmö

This tramway in Malmö has been the city’s precedent tramway system, which runs for approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles). The system was built in 1887 as a heritage streetcar line and was originally servicing as horsecars until they were replaced with electric trams from the year 1906. Two-axle cars were mainly used in the beginning until the use of bogie cars in 1946. Despite this, additional two-axle cars were provided merely 5 years later. This electric tramway system had been utilized by the city for about 67 years until 1973, when the last electric tram was superseded by a bus and this traffic system has been closed.

Nowadays, tram fans run the tramway in summertime and an additional route that directly runs to the historicMalmö Castle has been added.

The municipal public library of Malmo City opened its doors on the 12th of December 1905 and later in 2006, became the first ever Swedish library to lend video games. In the beginning, the library only had 3,096 book and periodical volumes but this quickly grew to a massive 550,000 various media collections, 33,500 CD’s and around 10,000 DVD’s, at present. The first Malmo library building in 1946, popularly called “The Castle” was originally constructed to be part of the Malmo Museum. Renowned architects John Smedberg and Fredrik Sundbärg were commissioned to design the facility. The building style was greatly inspired by renaissance castles in Southern Sweden and the Danes.

Currently, the Malmo City library is consisting of three buildings with an addition of “The Calendar of Light”, designed by the famous Danish architect Henning Larsen on May 31, 1997. This contemporary building is linked together with the original library by an infrastructure called “The Cylinder”. This is also where the entrance, information and return desk, and even a café is found.

Mölleplatsen Malmö slottsparken

The powerful Dutch mill,Mölleplatsen in Malmo has been built in 1851, which was originally a part of Bastion Stenbock fortress. This well-preserved mill is part of the Malmo Museum. One big renovation was done in the 1940 though a lot of older fixed furniture in the miller’s home remained intact over the years. A small garden with boxwood and spice planting was added in the later 20th century. The mill is often used as an outdoor recreation site. Famous artists like Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Per Gessle, 50 Cent, and Lars Winnerback held performances around the mill’s area. The place also used to be the primary site for Malmo City’s festivals until many activities were moved to Skeppsbron. On the other hand, Slottsparken is one of the most scenic parks in Malmo, Sweden, established in 1897. Tourist and locals alike enjoy the variety of things that can be done in the park. With breathtaking scenery and plenty of activities to choose from, Slottsparken is a popular place for walking especially in warm, sunny days.
